A surveillance video of three elephants pigging out and sauntering around in a village went viral online.
The three wild Asian elephants, two adults and one baby, entered the Nangping village of Xishuangbanna, Southwest China's Yunnan Province, on September 13. Wandering about and eating, they broke into the vegetable plot in a police camp of Mohan Checkpoint.
The police rushed to the scene after getting reports that there was a potential human-elephant conflict. They guarded the area and evacuated the crowd to prevent accidental conflicts between the local residents and the elephants until the three strolled back toward the natural reserve.
During their two hours at the police camp, the elephants gorged themselves on vegetables, pulled down coconut trees with their trunks and ate the coconuts. The baby elephant even stretched out its trunk to interact with a police dog inside the camp.
